New Scrappage Policy to be Implemented in Delhi from April 1 – Is Your Vehicle on the List?

If your vehicle has become old in Delhi, then be alert! From April 1, 2025, Delhi government's new scrappage policy will be implemented, which will impact diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years. If you ignore this rule, be ready for heavy fines or seizure!

Which Vehicles Will Be Banned?

  • Diesel vehicles older than 10 years – These will not be allowed to run on Delhi roads.
  • Petrol vehicles older than 15 years – These will also be considered illegal to drive.
  • Vehicles failing the fitness test – If your vehicle does not pass the fitness test, scrapping will be mandatory.

What Will Happen If You Break the Rule?

According to the government, if caught, you may face a fine between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000. And yes, your vehicle can also be seized!

What Are the Benefits of Scrapping?

If you scrap your old vehicle, you will get several benefits while buying a new vehicle:

  • Discount on the new vehicle price – A reduction of 4% to 6% on the new vehicle price.
  • Road tax concession – A saving of 15% to 25%.
  • Registration fee waiver – No registration fee for the new vehicle.
  • More benefits on electric vehicles – Additional subsidies if you buy an EV.

What to Do If Your Vehicle Is Old?

  1. Get a fitness test done – Visit a government-approved center for your vehicle’s test.
  2. If it fails, get it scrapped – Take your vehicle to a government-approved scrapping center.
  3. Obtain a disposal certificate – This will help you avail discounts when purchasing a new vehicle.

Will Delhi’s Air Get Cleaner?

The government claims that removing old vehicles will improve Delhi’s toxic air quality. But the question also arises whether this policy will create trouble for the common people.

Is This Rule Justified?

Some people argue that with skyrocketing prices of new vehicles, replacing an old vehicle is not easy for everyone. On the other hand, the government states that this step is necessary to save the environment.

So What Should You Do Now?

If your vehicle falls under this rule, start preparing now! Otherwise, after April 1, you may have to face strict action.
