The Indian two-wheeler industry experienced mixed results in March 2025, with some manufacturers reporting strong growth while others faced challenges. The increasing demand for scooters and electric two-wheelers has played a crucial role in shaping market trends.
Hero MotoCorp: Sales Decline Despite Annual Growth
Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, reported a 9% year-on-year (YoY) decline in domestic wholesale sales for March, selling 4,59,257 units compared to 5,02,730 units in the same period last year. However, the company’s overall sales for FY 2024-25 grew by 5%, reaching 54.20 lakh units, up from 51.56 lakh units in the previous fiscal year.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI): Strong Performance
Honda recorded an 81% YoY growth in domestic sales, selling 3,58,151 units in March 2025, a significant jump from 1,97,542 units in March 2024.
TVS Motor Company: Steady Growth
TVS Motor saw an 8% YoY increase, selling 2,60,532 units in March 2025, up from 2,40,780 units last year. The company continues to strengthen its position in both motorcycles and scooters.
Bajaj Auto: Impressive Growth
Bajaj Auto reported a 20% increase in two-wheeler sales, reaching 1,83,004 units in March 2025, compared to 1,52,287 units in the previous year.
Royal Enfield: Continued Expansion
Royal Enfield maintained its strong market position, recording a 10% growth with 66,044 units sold in March, up from 59,884 units last year. The brand continues to see demand for its classic and cruiser motorcycles.
Suzuki Motorcycle India: Consistent Sales Increase
Suzuki reported an 18% YoY growth, selling 86,164 units in March 2025 compared to 73,069 units in March 2024. The brand’s focus on premium scooters and motorcycles has contributed to its success.
Scooter Segment: Rising Demand & EV Growth
The scooter market is expected to reach a record 6.75 million units in FY 2025. By February 2025, total scooter sales had already crossed 6.26 million units, reflecting a 16.6% YoY increase. Honda remains the market leader with a 42% share, followed by TVS, which grew by 24% to sell 1.65 million units. Bajaj Auto has doubled its market share to 4%, while Yamaha and Ather Energy have also recorded solid growth. Electric scooters contributed 11% of total scooter sales, with nearly 700,000 units sold in FY 2025.
March 2025 saw a varied performance across India’s two-wheeler segment. While traditional leaders like Hero MotoCorp faced slight challenges, brands like Honda, Bajaj, and Royal Enfield continued to expand. The growing demand for scooters and electric two-wheelers indicates a shift in consumer preferences toward convenience and sustainability. The industry’s future will depend on innovation, competitive pricing, and expanding EV infrastructure to meet evolving market demands.
